My sister in law is confined to a wheelchair. About a year ago she began researching goats, to help keep the weeds down, carry things, and pull her chair. She checked the city zoning ordinances and called city hall. They said "No problem".

In July I rescued a beautiful alpine goat, along with 2 dozen other animals, from an awful hoarding situation. My sister in law took four chickens, a duck, and Billy the Goat and nursed him back to health.

On Monday, at a supposedly "canceled" city council meeting, the city decided to ban "farm animals" and limit dogs per household to 3, effective immediately, no grandfather clause. Then, when Channel 19 news did a segment, the mayor claimed these animals were always banned!

What happens to the people who have 4 dogs? How do you choose which dog to give up? And where does the dog go??

On Friday there will be a special council session where all emails and letters will be read. Please read the message from my sister in law, below, watch the TV news report.

Please write. Please cross post and forward this request. Thank you.
--Helen Morrison

Begin Forward Message----------------------

This was on the news, I did not know they where coming someone else called, so I don't look so good/ I was up crying much of the night.

Also, please forward this to anyone else who may be interested in the story.
I don't feel like talking on the phone, I am too sad.
Just give him your opinion may help or not.

Vampire novels set in Cleveland

Found a fun book called BLOOD AND RUST by S. A. Swiniarski.

2 vampire novels in one book:

Raven, set in the present and largely in the Coventry area and points west,

The Flesh, The Blood, and The Fire, set in Depression era Cleveland which makes you wonder about the torso murders and the East Ohio Gas explosion.

Enjoy!

BINARY w/Le Castle Vania Lazaro Casanova - 7.14.07

Data Panic presents
BINARY - Cleveland's new monthly club night:

URB Magazine's 2007 “Next 100”artist Le Castle Vania (Atlanta) and Miami rising star Lazaro Casanova will be serving up a night of banging electro and dance rock beats!

Le Castle Vania’s fusion of catchy electro, rock, and disco punk is quickly putting the dirty south on the map. Le Castle Vania has pushed vinyl alongside the likes of MSTRKRFT, Uffie & Feadz, The Presets, Mount Sims, Steve Aoki and Tommie Sunshine and his riotous DJ sets and penchant for production have made him the reigning prince of Atlanta’s dance rock and electro scene. You won’t want to miss his frantic fist pumping, crowd-hyping antics!

And could you ask for a better opener? Lazaro Casanova’s tight knit DJ style has made this 21-year-old a rising star in the electro scene. In addition to numerous original productions, Lazaro has offered up corroded electro influenced house mixes for MSTRKRFT, The Teenagers, Crystal Castles, and The Knife among others. Beware! Lazaro’s infectious tunes could wear you out before Le Castle Vania lays down his first track…

Hi! I've been in the area a few years, now. New to Tribe, and relatively new to this area.

I'd like to know if anyone's been to Cleveland's Chinatown area, or lives in or near that neighborhood. I've seen it mentioned before in the Plain Dealer. Where exactly is it? I've heard it's somewhere along Superior, but wasn't sure because I don't get a chance to go down there very often.

Hey all,
I was interested to know what the general opinion was about building a new aquarium in Cleveland. We haven't had one in so long and I think it would be a great addition to our city.
Here is a link to a group who could use support if you are interested...

Time is a coming that such things will be visited. Last haunted house I went to was Bloodview haunted house, but geesh that was two years now.

What is the best you've been too? have you gone to a corn maze? If you visit haunted houses, are loyal to one more than others?

I've been here for about two months, and I've already settled into my favorite bar (Old Angle), restaurant (The Diner on Clifton), and coffee shop (Arabica). What else is there that I absolutely must check out and do while I'm living here?

I moved from New York City, if that makes any difference at all.

"Scene" vs. the newly-revamped "Free Times"

OK, which free newspaper do you like better? Or do you pretty much believe them to be about the same? What do you like or not like about them?

I enjoy both of them, but for different reasons. I prefer the Free Times when it comes to articles. But Scene has Derf, and I think Derf is one of the funniest comics on the planet.

I could do without all the 'escort' ads in the back, but I guess they have to pay the bills somehow. :P

Your thoughts?

Speed & Red Light Cameras in Cleveland

While I was on my lunch break a couple weeks ago, I went through a light on Broadway Ave. (in front of the post office just north of Miles Ave.), and as I went through it, I saw a sign that read "speed enforced by camera" or something along those lines. I really didn't think anything of it cause I was just following traffic doing whatever speed everyone else was doing. I never go that way, but for some reason that day, I did (bad idea).

Well, about a week ago, a bunch of people who I work worth said they all got tickets for going through that same light. The fine was for $100. Most of them went through that light back in February, but were just now getting the ticket. A memo went out later that week saying that anyone who drives a company vehical, and gets a ticket is responsible for paying for it. I don't drive a company vehical (not yet anyway).

Well, on Tuesday I got a call from my mother, cause she got a ticket in the mail for my car. The car is technically in her name because when I bought it, I wanted the employee discount (she works for a GM dealer), and at that time GM didn't have the "employee pricing" promotion. I was going 36 in a 25 (oh big whooptidoo!!!). So now, I've gotta pay $100 to the shitty city of Cleveland.

I've never gotten a speeding ticket before, and have only been involved in two minor accidents (both were when I was 16 & 17). But the only good thing is with getting this ticket is that neither my mom, nor I will get any points on our license.

So, anyone that lives in or has to drive in the shitty city of Thieveland on a daily basis, be aware of those damn cameras!!!!!

Solon deer murder, Ohio State breaking mice spines, Case Western holdout

14 Ohio Animal Rights Stories

HUNDREDS OF DEER ARE ASKING YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

Once again the City of Solon has brought in sharpshooters to "cull" their suburban deer population, budgeting $ 1/2 million on an ineffective population-control method (as the herd will rebound right back), and ignoring all non-lethal methods presented them (www.conference.lohvoh.org/ ).

(PAST EVENT BUT PLEASE IF YOU CARE ASK TO BE PUT ON MAILING LIST)
Please join us in a peaceful protest this Tuesday, January 17 at 6:30 PM at Solon City Hall. Media will be present and a show of numbers will present a solid demand for non-lethal means of population control such as contraception testing, as well as the many available ways of co-existing with the deer, such as Strieter-Lites to limit deer/vehicle accidents.

Now more than ever, with so many communities turning to sharpshooting, bowhunting, and the horror of the captive bolt, your support is desperately needed to show legislators, the media and the public that killing animals is not a solution to a perceived problem.

Thank you and we hope to see you Tuesday.

Tuesday Elections - November 8, 2005

Here is how I'm voting and why:

Mayor: Frank Jackson - Unlike "Queen Jane", this guy gets it, he knows the city's problems inside and out and he has the ability to get things done. Unlike the current mayor, who likes to take credit for things she had little or nothing to do with (just ask the folks at West Town Community Development Center), lie to constituents and alienate just about everybody who ever supported her. I ask that you vote for Frank Jackson for mayor, if you live in Cleveland, this Tuesday.

Issues 2, 3, 4 & 5: I am voting in favor of all of these issies. Despite what the neocons in Ohio have said, our electoral process is broken and these issues--which are binding--are the best solution we have for fixing the system. These measures will lower the amount that people can donate to $2,000 in campaign contributions; take away the ability of a partisan secretary of state to rig elections by creating a nonpartisan elections board; eliminate gerrymandering by both parties by setting up a nonpartisan board to redraw legislative districts so that neither political party can gain an unfair advantage over the other; and make it easier for voters to vote absentee. Many newspapers acknowledge that Ohio's electoral process needs reform--badly, but tell us, "don't fix it." I say fix it. The Republicans, hoping to kill Issues 2-5, have offered non-binding legislation as a means of convincing voters to go against them but 1) there is no way the bill would come up for a vote in the Ohio Legislature before Tuesday and 2) the Republicans know they're going to kill the legislation anyway if they can convince voters to shoot down the reform issues on the ballot, which are binding and would be adopted into Ohio's Constitution if they pass. Ken Blackwell, who helped rig last year's election in Ohio in favor of the candidate whose campaign he served on while serving simultaneously as Ohio's chief election official, wants these measures killed. Mainly because he wants to be governor next year and he won't be able to rig his way into office if the measures pass. I urge everyone who cares about Ohio's future to vote in favor of Issues 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Mayoral Candidates

The following were lifted from today's Cleveland Plain Dealer:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Creating a safe city: Frank Jackson
Tuesday, October 25, 2005
Leadership and partnerships will improve safety in the city of Cleveland. Politics won't.

We need a strong mayor who is willing to forge partnerships with residents, businesses, safety forces and the suburban community. Then, we will realize an improved quality of life in our neighborhoods and a better atmosphere to promote economic development. Our success will be determined by the strength of our leadership, the dedication of our safety forces and the totality of our response to all levels of crime.

We must deliver the message . . . that we will no longer tolerate symbols of neglect. Abandoned houses, graffiti and burned-out street lights become invitations to people to commit crimes and make it more difficult for our safety forces to do their jobs.

The need to improve safety in Cleveland is one that I have seen grow first hand: as an assistant city prosecutor, when I saw the faces of criminals and victims; as a council member, when I saw the impact on quality of life in my community. As president of City Council, I have seen the impact on economic development throughout the city.

We as a city must first deliver the message that we care about our citizens and neighborhoods and that we will no longer tolerate symbols of neglect. Abandoned houses, graffiti and burned-out street lights become invitations to people to commit crimes and make it more difficult for our safety forces to do their jobs.

We must also deliver a message that we as a city have zero tolerance for crime and that all levels of crime will be dealt with accordingly. In order to do this effectively and to ensure that our police officers have all the resources they need while operating within our budget, we need to do three things right away.

Implement a new deployment plan. The city of Cleveland must have a more effective police deployment plan that reaches into our neighborhoods and concentrates our resources.

Improve the technology available to our safety forces. These tools will allow our officers to do their jobs more efficiently, reduce the time it takes them to perform administrative functions and increase their time on the streets protecting all of our citizens, both business and residents.

Encourage regional collaboration with our suburban neighbors. By working with neighboring communities, we will be able to lobby for additional federal and state resources, share some of the costs of operating special police units like the helicopter unit, and we will be able to maintain a stronger police presence.

The mayor's leadership in promoting these public safety initiatives will have a positive impact on the mem bers of the police force who will then have the resources they need to do their jobs more effectively. The next step will be to regain the confidence and trust of the people and businesses throughout Cleveland -- a trust that the city can and will protect them and the confidence that their civil liberties will be respected.

The mission to create an environment in Cleveland that is safe, free of the symbols of neglect and has zero tolerance for crime must be firmly established and understood by everyone, from the mayor to the average citizen. The key to accomplishing this is strong leadership from the mayor, the safety director and the chief of police. A strong safety director can protect a professional police chief from the politics of City Hall and allow the chief to do his job. With this leadership in place, the command staff and the rank-and-file members of the police force will be able to demonstrate a higher level of professionalism.

Once this mission is in place, the mayor and the safety leadership in Cleveland will be able to offer increased accountability to the citizens of Cleveland, and the police force will be able to balance its duty to enforce the law with the need to uphold human rights. The combination of the two will create a Cleveland that people will want to live in, will want to invest in and will want to visit.

We will have neighborhoods that do not harbor criminals in abandoned buildings; there will be no places of little light that encourage drug deals. We will have an environment that is desirable to developers and business owners who will be more confident that their employees and customers will be safe. We will have an environment in which tourists will feel comfortable. We will become a city of choice.

Jackson is president of City Council.

Okay, as many of you probably know I'm volunteering on the Jackson campaign for mayor. So you can imagine how giddy I was when he whupped Campbell's behind in Tuesday's primary election.

But I was wondering, why do you think so few people showed up to vote on Tuesday? According to the Plain Dealer, only 16% of registered voters actually bothered to go to the polls.

Is it the shenanigans by Blackwell last year that disenfranchised so many? Could it be the Plain Dealer's backing of Campbell (a candidate so many people from my observation do not want in the mayor's office again) combined with the paper's dissing of the other candidates? Or is it a combination of these reasons?

Just curious.

Jackson For Mayor

http://www.frankgjackson.com

http://www.frankjacksonformayor.com

http://kickme.to/byebyeJane

I'm volunteering on the Frank Jackson campaign. He's running for mayor, and I will be making the rounds at events, going door-to-door, etc. for him. I wanted to try and avoid politics on this tribe but sometimes its important to get involved in it. Because Cleveland is dying, and the mayor just sits on her ass coming up with nice-sounding ideas that she'll never implement.

Jackson has been on City Council for 16 years now, and Council President for four of them. He's got a solid record of getting things done, and many members of Cleveland City Council support his campaign and want him as mayor.

I'm not asking you to support Frank right now, not when you may not have even heard of him yet. You need information before you can make that decision. So I'm asking that you check out his website and come to events he's going to be at. Hear the man speak. I think that when you do, you'll like his honesty and his straightforward talking.

Thanks for reading this.

Lou Gramm Band - One Dream

One Dream (B.Turgon/L.Gramm)
Maybe I'm wrong
And I should know better
To trust easily, I don't know...
But I've waited so long
And I need to believe
That there must be a way
And I know
I've got...

One dream that keeps me hangin' on
One dream, over and over
One dream that love will find a way
Find a way, yeah, yeah

Yesterday's gone
And all that remains of the past
Is this memory
But it takes love that is strong
And a heart that is pure
To stand a little pain
We gotta live for today

One dream that keeps me hangin' on
One dream, dream it over and over
One dream that love will find a way
Find a way, yeah
One dream that's all that I'm livin' for
One dream, dream it over and over
One dream that love will find a way
Find a way, yeah, yeah
Ooh, yeah
Yesterday's gone
And all that remains of the past
Is a memory
But it takes love that is strong
And a heart that's pure
And can stand a little pain
Ooh, yeah, yeah now

One dream that keeps me hangin' on
One dream, over and over
One dream that love will find a way
I know, I know
One dream that keeps me hangin' on
One dream, over and over
One dream that love will find a way

Mmm, mmm
Will find a way
Love will find a way

One dream that keeps me hangin' on
One dream, over and over
One dream that keeps me hangin' on

John Kerry?

What do you guys think about John Kerry. His speech at the Democratic convention wasn't bad despite mentioning that he was a Vietnam hero a gazillon times!

Last night at the bar, my friends and I were talking about Kerry. They think that he's ruining his chances despite practically being handed the Presidency. They said that he make Al Gore look vibrant.

I agree that he isn't the most interesting candidate, but I think he's the LEAST sucky out of the democratic nominees he competed with:

There was Graham, Gephardt, Lieerman, and Clark. I kept getting them all confused. They didn't say anything prominent that made them stand out from the rest of the candidates. And they were really old. Who wants a president who might die before his term is over?

There was Dennis Kucinich, which I really wanted to like since he's the Senator for my state. (Ohio) But he felt too 'weasely' for me. I kept picturing him as a villan from the old "Batman" TV series. He would have made a good Riddler...hopping around and doing cartwheels.

There was Al Sharpton, who was a really animated vibrant talker. But unfortunately, it didn't matter what his views and points were. He's black. The only black president we will be seeing anytime soon is on the Fox TV show "24". (great show, by the way!) And there was Braun, who was black AND didn't have a penis, so thats a double no-no for her.

I kinda liked Dean, but eventually the only thing he was known for was being 'coo-coo' with the microphone. That's not necesssarilly a bad thing...If Kerry showed half the passion that Dean had, I'm sure his popularity would boost. But Dean was the butt of too many jokes so he had to go.

Then there was John Edwards. The son of a mill worker if you haven't heard. At first, I thought he was too young, too weak and wimpy, too pretty-boyish to be President. When we are at a time of war, we don't want a guy other countries won't take seriously and push around. But after listening to his speech at the convention, he had a 'Kennedy' feel to him. Maybe Kerry should be HIS running mate.

I think the best thing Kerry has going for him is that he's not George W. Bush. And I guess he should keep pushing his heroic military background for all it can get. Both him and Edwards talk about how they know what the working class needs, but they are ridiculously rich. They keep promising great Healthcare, but how are they going to implement this and with what money?? Maybe they should chase Kucinich until he gives them his pot of gold. (It's a Leprechaun joke...get it?)

But Kerry and Edwards do have one thing going for them... They're the least-sucky of the bunch and possibly the best chance the Democrats have of winning the White House. What do you guys think?

Greetings one and all!

I have decided to put together a new Internet news website based in the Greater Cleveland area. I am currently seeking people to contribute articles, columns and reviews in their spare time. I would like to keep updates on a weekly basis for the time being, and every person who can contribute will help a lot to fulfill this goal!

Should you wish to contribute an article, interview, column or review, please include a picture of yourself (optional) along with your name so you can be credited for your work. You may send me these via e-mail. I will post them on the website.

As I want to make the website the best it can possibly be, I am also seeking people experienced in web design. If you or anyone you know would like to help out toward that end, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.

Kerry's Ideas For the Military

I saw this originally over at the Bush vs Kerry tribe, and I think it warrants posting here:

http://fairuse.1accesshost.com/news2/dn.htm

What if John Kerry Wins?
By WILLIAM MATTHEWS

If John Kerry becomes U.S. president, defense budgets will keep going up, he says - but how that money is spent is going to change.

Budgets have to keep rising "for a period, unavoidably," the Democratic presidential hopeful said in a June 24 interview with Defense News. The war in Iraq, the global war on terrorism, military transformation and the need to repair and replace weapons lost or simply worn down in Iraq make higher defense budgets inevitable, Kerry said.

But Kerry also said he is willing to delay missile defense plans and cut back other weapons programs to add two divisions to the 10-division Army.

President George W. Bush has made deploying a missile interceptor system a top military priority and plans to spend $9.2 billion on it in 2005 alone. Kerry says that's spending too much too soon.

"I'm not for the rapid deployment of missile defense," the Massachusetts senator said. "I'm for research and development and continuing the testing. But I don't think we're ready for deployment. I think that's a pool of money that's going to be wasted."

Cuts to the missile defense program could yield "several billion" dollars to be spent on other defense needs, he said.

Kerry declined to specify what other programs might also be cut, saying he would order a threat analysis to indicate which systems now in development are no longer top priorities, he said.

"What I'm committed to is transformation of the military for the 21st century," he said, a force that is able to fight terrorism and also able to handle more traditional threats. "I think having a more mobile, more special-operations-oriented, more flexible, rapidly deployable military is very important to us."

Kerry said there is a general need to modernize weapons, develop newer systems for urban warfare and repair or replace older weapons and equipment worn out in Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Those would be budget priorities.

Adding Troops

At least as pressing is the need to add troops to the overburdened U.S. Army.

Of the two divisions Kerry proposes to add - about 40,000 troops - one would be a standard combat division and the other would be a "support division" designed for post-conflict operations. It would include "civil affairs, psychological operations, military police, engineering, all those kinds of components that are part of winning the postwar effort.

"I think we need greater training in that," Kerry said. "Winning a war is not just winning the active war, it's winning the immediate occupation afterwards, which this administration was completely unprepared and ill-equipped to do."

As his red-white-and-blue campaign plane flew south along the California coast, Kerry ticked off what he called the failures and arrogance of the Bush administration. And he confidently spelled out how he would deal with key defense matters, from transformation of U.S. forces to improving relations with U.S. allies.

Kerry disparaged the Bush administration for its failures in the war in Iraq and its failure to hold anyone accountable for them.

"I think there's a serious question as to why [Defense Secretary Donald] Rumsfeld and any of them are still around," he said. "When you miscalculate in war as badly as they have miscalculated, when you don't have equipment that you're supposed to have, when you short the number of troops you should have, when you don't even calculate the postwar process accurately, when you willfully refuse to look at plans drawn up by others in order to do this right, it's beyond negligence. When you pass off looting as a minor happening, it's beyond me.

"The lack of accountability up and down the line sends a message throughout the military that is counter to everything you've learned in the military," he said.

Kerry argued that he is better qualified to manage the diplomatic and war fighting duties of the commander-in-chief.

"I have 20 years experience on the [Senate] Foreign Relations Committee; I have active war fighting experience; I went to chemical, biological warfare school; I have served on the Arms Control Observer group of the Senate; I've been chairman of the Narcotics Terrorism Committee; I've visited bases and troops and countries abroad that are challenges to our nation; and I think I am ready to be commander-in-chief in this new world."

Kerry said he has "a greater level of preparation and a better vision of how we'd make ourselves safe than George Bush has - even now."

From the outset of his presidency, Kerry said he would work to repair relations with U.S. allies. In the Middle East, he said he would strive to get Arab countries more involved in their own policing.

"I believe you have got to turn to the Arab countries and say to them, 'Look, you have a choice, you can have a failed state as your neighbor and maybe a civil war next door, or you get involved.' I think this administration does not have the ability to do that because this administration [disrespected] them so badly going in. I think you need a new president in order to have a new policy in Iraq."

Kerry said he has influence with Middle Eastern leaders.

"I know Hosni Mubarak, I know King Abdullah [of Jordan], I know [Saudi] Crown Prince Abdullah. I have dealt with these people for 15 years or more - not in the case of King Abdullah because he hasn't been there that long, but I know him. He has been in my home. I have worked with him on economic development in Jordan. I have a relationship."

Kerry called for a broad dialogue on the Korean peninsula: "a bilateral negotiation in North Korea where we put the entire force deployment issue on the table along with the nuclear issue and the economic issue and human rights issues, and you really try to come to resolution on the armistice."

And in Europe, he said the United States must work to build up the nascent European defense capability. "It's a good thing for Europe to have a more developed force, and I think we need to work with them to develop it."

Ideas For Improving Cleveland & Cuyahoga

I have become increasingly concerned about the welfare of my home town and the county in which it is located. I have also become increasingly political in my thinking in recent years, and I am growing tired of just sitting on the sidelines while local leaders turn my city and my county to crap.

I will first address issues concerning Cleveland, and then I will ask for members who live in the outlying communities to voice their concerns and ideas for their own cities.

Basically, my biggest gripe is with the way Cleveland's leaders handle finances. We are in debt up to our ears, yet our local leaders continue to live extravagantly and spend public money like it is limitless. This has to end, and end now. To that end, I'd like to put forth some ideas that I have been tossing around in my head, and ask the other members of this tribe for their input.

1.) Scrap the convention center plans, and try to come up with ways we can get the Rock Hall induction ceremonies held here in Cleveland.

Think about it; why continue to push to build a convention center when we don't really use the one we have now except for the Autorama, and when every time it is put on the ballot the idea gets shot down by voters? This seems to me to be a no-brainer. If we can get the induction ceremonies held here in Cleveland where the Rock Hall is located, that will bring the musicians who will in turn attract tourists looking to get a glimpse of their favorite artists. This would also attract shopping back to downtown Cleveland, as it would be necessary to make downtown a place where people would want to spend their money in order to make holding the ceremonies here feasible.

So in my mind, it would be a better use of time, effort and resources to try and figure out a way to get the induction ceremonies held here in Cleveland. The convention center can wait until such time as the city is able to attract people not only from other cities across America but also from the suburbs.

2.) Provide tax breaks to businesses, large and small, that create long-term jobs in Cleveland proper. Make businesses that are currently receiving tax breaks but not creating jobs start paying their fair share of the tax burden, as corporate welfare (as this actually is) is simply lost revenue. Given the fact that residency is at an all time low in Cleveland, it is unfathomable to me that our leaders continue to give free rides to businesses that do not generate long-term, decent-paying jobs.

In other words, make businesses earn their tax breaks. Those that wish to leave the city as a result of such a policy may do so, since they're doing it already. That will leave more room for smaller businesses to take advantage and flourish.

3.) Ask the School CEO to take a 2/3 reduction in pay and perks. Barbara Byrd-Bennet is making an estimated $300,000 per year, with an additional $100,000 per year in expenses which was recently criticized by the state auditor. Why is the school CEO making so much money in a single year when we cannot afford to transport our city's students to and from school? It's ridiculous. I would suggest cutting Ms. Byrd-Bennet's salary down to $75,000 per year with an additional $5,000 per year in school-related personal expenses. There is no excuse for shelling out this much money to a single person who is head of a municipal school system, especially when improvements under Byrd-Bennet's tenure seem to have been marginal.

4.) I read about this in the Cleveland Free Times; reduce the number of city councilpersons, or at least reduce their salaries by half. We have 21 city council members in Cleveland, all of whom are making over $100,000 each per year. Why is this, when we have had Mayor Jane Campbell lay off hundreds of safety service employees due to insufficient funds? Why shouldn't our elected city representatives sacrifice at least half their own salaries during this time of fiscal crisis?

I say petition city council to reduce its salaries to $50,000-$55,000 per year until such time as the financial crisis is over. Other cities with larger populations than Cleveland have fewer councilpersons that have lower pay. And somehow they manage to do an effective job of running their cities. I'm not going to be naive and think that we will ever reduce the number of councilpersons, but certainly it would be more feasible to ask for a temporary 50% pay reduction. It would save Cleveland about $1 million a year. That money could perhaps be spent for the purposes of hiring back some of our laid off safety force workers, or other programs to help the individual wards.

5.) Reduce or eliminate the city tax on residents who are forced to find work in neighboring communities. Is it my fault, for example, that I have to work in Rocky River because no lasting or stable jobs seem to be in Cleveland? I don't think so, so why do I need to fork over more of my money? Why penalize me for something that is beyond my control? All this tax does is make me want to go live in the city I work in, which is NOT Cleveland. Does this make sense when my home town is bleeding residents to the suburbs and other states altogether?

Anyway, those are my ideas for improving Cleveland. Obviously there's room for error, and I don't claim to have all the answers. But I do think these ideas are, if nothing else, worth trying out. What do my fellow Clevelanders think?

So, for members of this tribe who live outside Cleveland, what gripes do you have about your community and what ideas do you have for fixing the problems?

Better still (and this question is for all members), how do you think solutions could be implemented?

Started in 1969, the Hessler Street Fair has been a music and arts tradition in Cleveland. It is the primary fund-raiser for the Hessler Neighborhood Association (HNA). In turn, the HNA uses these funds to help preserve and maintain the Hessler Road neighborhood. The Hessler Street Fair continues to promote a spirit of togetherness and care-free fun in a home-grown atmosphere of family-friendly entertainment.

This years fair will be held (rain or shine) on:

Saturday, May 22nd

&

Sunday May 23rd

from noon to dusk

Please come celebrate one of Historic Cleveland's' most eclectic festivals
this Saturday and Sunday from noon to dusk! The Hessler Street Fair is held in
the Historic tree-lined, wooden street neighborhood, one block north of Euclid &
Mayfield Roads, in the heart of both University Circle and Case Western
Reserve University.

Hang out with and support local artists, network with
peace & justice & environmental activists, hear live music, poetry, create some
art, visit the museum, eat hot fresh strawberry crepes and a plethora of ethnic
delicacies and just enjoy the "vibe" that is the Hessler Street Fair!
Alcoholic beverages are available nearby at The Barking Spider.

The Hessler Street Fair is a fun family friendly event, with hands-on
children's activities in Harmony Park. Nonstop music will be broadcast on WRUW
featuring The Peace Love and Unity Circuit!

There will be a memorial area, and a candlelight vigil Saturday evening at
dusk dedicated to the loving memory of Daniel Thompson, it is rumored that there
would also be an open poetry period immediately following. Please bring a
candle and kind words, or just come out and celebrate the legacy of activism with
heart that is The Poet Laureate of Cleveland.

What's your favorite mall to hang out at/around? What store in that mall do you frequent most?

Mine is Great Northern Mall, in North Olmsted. I like Hobart's Health Food store (on Great Northern Blvd), and World Market. Kick-ass stuff in those places.

What do you like, dislike about your town?

There was a recent story in the alternative paper, Cleveland Free Times, about something called 'Cleveland Affective Disorder' which from my brief scan of the article looked like some expose on the state of Clevelanders' psyches and hangups about their home town.

It got me thinking, what's to like or dislike about Cleveland? Or, for that matter, any municipality in Cuyahoga?

So in the spirit of this thread, what do you like the most about your home town? What do you dislike the most? Why?

Does anyone remember the old Channel 61 TV station that played all those oldies like Blondie, Ma & Pa Kettle, Little Rascals, Three Stooges, etc. before they turned it into a freakin' home shopping network?

I was thinking of that for some reason today, and I was wondering if anyone else remembered that.

Just thought I'd ask members to donate any Cleveland/Cuyahoga pics they happen to have to the gallery. You can include pics of yourself, friends, family, whomever as long as it also has an identifiable image of someplace in Cuyahoga. Please list where the pic was taken, especially if it is indoors.

Welcome Cleveland, Cuyahoga Residents!

Okay, we've all discovered the joys of tribe.net, and we've all found new 'net friends and so on. But in my experience so far on this site most of the people I have met are in other states and in some cases other countries altogether.

So I decided, why not a tribe for people from right here in the Greater Cleveland area, people who live here in Cuyahoga, who want to chat and hang around and whatever else strikes their fancy?

So here is the Cleveland and Cuyahoga tribe. I'm asking all new members to recruit and donate pictures, and above all get to know one another! Later on down the line maybe we can organize meetups or get-togethers or whatever.

Have fun!
